Former Laikipia University Students’ Union President Rose Gakuo (pictured) has risen to a senior news anchor on a local TV station.
Gakuo was also the first woman to head a Public University Students’ Union in 2013.
She also deputised Babu Owino at Kenya University Students Organisation, the universities associations’ umbrella body.
She made her debut on K24 TV on October 8 night as its senior news anchor after a stint as reporter and anchor at KBC.
She was also among the finalists in KTN’s “The Presenter” contest season 2 in 2015.
Gakuo who graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Communication and Media in November 2015, said it was a tough journey juggling books and politics.
“I made sure I struck a balance between leadership and books to ensure I do not mess up my studies.
“Craziest moments came when students came calling at the wee hours of the night asking for an ambulance to rush a colleague to hospital.
“As a leader, I would often accompany them to the hospital” she told Campus Vibe in a past interview.
