Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine has sent a special appreciation message to Kenyans who stood with him when he was arrested in Uganda.
The Ugandan pop-star-cum-politician was thankful for the support he received from across the region but most specifically from Kenyans.
"I will quickly remind you about our Swahili speaking brothers across Africa who stood with us. In a special way, I would like to appreciate the Kenyan brothers and sisters," said the MP while addressing a press conference in Uganda yesterday.
He disclosed that he has plans underway to meet his supporters and sing songs of freedom.
“Specifically, let me assure our dear brothers and sisters in Kenya, as well as other fraternal African countries that I have read your countless messages of solidarity. Very soon, I will announce plans for us to meet, interact and sing songs of freedom," he said.
On August 23rd 2018, Kenyans poured to the streets of Nairobi and online under the hashtag #FreeBobiWine for a peaceful demonstration to demand for the release of the Uganda Legislator.
The demo was spearheaded by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and the Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) following revelation that Bobi Wine was tortured in detention.
“The Kenyan legislators who stood with us, the Kenyan artistes and the Kenyan writers. That was a reminder that you have always stood with us all throughout history but am glad that you are still standing with us even at this defining point in our history as Ugandans,” added the Kyadondo East MP.
Bobi Wine arrived home in Uganda from the US after being treated for injuries he got from beatings he allegedly received from security officers during his arrest and detention last month.
He was later chauffeured to his home in Magere, Wakiso District as police denied arresting him upon his arrival and instead claimed they only took him home as promised.
