Murdered Rongo University student Sharon Otieno’s baby was fathered by Migori governor Okoth Obado, DNA tests have revealed.
“There are 99.9+% more chances that Zacharia Okoth Obado is the biological father of the donor of the DNA generated from the foetus, that is Sharon Belyne Otieno’s child,” a report by a government analyst seen by the Nation read.
The latest revelation puts Governor Obado at the centre of investigations into the 26-year-old’s abduction and gruesome murder.
Foetus’ death
According to the postmortem report, the foetus’ death was caused by a knife stab through the mother’s abdomen.
The baby died aged seven months after Sharon was stabbed eight times following her abduction alongside journalist Barack Oduor.
Speaking to the Nation, police sources revealed that following the DNA results, Governor Obado will have to record a second statement in Nairobi since he is now a person of interest in the investigation.
On Wednesday, the governor’s wife, Mrs Hellen Obado was due to record a statement at Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters but was later requested not to turn up due to “fresh emerging details.”
