A Chaplain at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology has written a letter to the University Council denying allegations that Vice Chancellor Prof. Fredrick Otieno was practising ritualism in his office.

Rev Willis Otuya, the university chaplain wrote to Council Chairman Dr Jeremy Bundi on claims of ritualism within the university and the office of the Vice Chancellor, the signatory shows the impossibility of the occurrence of the event in the campus.

This comes after unions in the university tried to ouster Prof. Fredrick Otieno due to what they termed as being implicated in corruption and abuse of office offences.

Rev Otuya in his letter to Dr Bundi 23rd July this year (Ref: MMU/COR: 562001 (1)) stated that they did not find anyone who witnessed the claimed rituals and paraphernalia within the institution.

“The Vice Chancellor’s office is among the very well-guarded places in this university that nothing can happen without being noticed,” stated the letter.

But Dr Bundi said: “As the council chairman I would like to categorically state that I have no personal interests at all at MMUST. All the allegations levelled against me and the council are fictitious and ill-founded,” Dr Bundi said.

The VC whose term ends on November 30, 2018, has however termed those fighting him as “people working to malign his hard work in the University after I stood on my ground to fight impunity in the university.”

Members of the Universities Academic Staff Union (Uasu), Kenya Universities Staff Union (Kusu) and Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions, Hospitals and Allied Workers (Kudheiha) have staged demos last week pushing for Otieno’s removal.
