It had been tipped to be the biggest show of the weekend. It did not disappoint.
During a weekend when everyone was talking about the World Cup finals, Kisumu was abuzz about two different events; the Obama visit and the Vera Sidika all-white party.
As early as Friday, all plans for the all-white party had been accomplished at Club da Place with patrons booking tables ahead of the big day.
And come Saturday evening, the venue went all-white as patrons obeyed the theme of the night. It was like a showdown of sorts as revellers took to the ‘white carpet’ for a photo moment, each dressed to kill.
The MC, Jalang’o, looked fabulous in an open button shirt and T-shirt while DJ Mellow stole the show with an open boob strapped top and matching white polka dot shorts. There was also Niccah who looked gorgeous in a hip-hugging sleeveless white dress. Others opted for white shorts and, keeping with the theme, white T-shirts.
And since this was a masquerade party, most wore stylish face masks while others went for face-blocking caps.
The music was perfect as DJ Mellow did her mixes, to which people danced to ecstatically. The mood was clearly right long before the main show started with Jalang’o, the emcee of the night, tickling the fun-lovers with good humour with rib-cracking punch lines.
At around midnight, the much-awaited moment came as Vera and Otile Brown’s arrival announcement was made. The lovebirds looked enviable, holding each other’s hands and waving to the crowds before taking a seat at the VIP lounge.
After a few drinks, they took charge of the night with Otile performing a few numbers among them Kistaarabu and his collabo with Sanaipei Tande, Chaguo La Moyo, the latter which he dedicated to Vera as the two serenaded each other on the floor.
Vera too had her moment, wowing the crowd with sweet words and confirming that indeed Otile and she are an item.
Everyone seemed awestruck, each with their cameras out for the photo moment and others lining up for a selfie chance.
Back in the capital city, Nairobi, the World Cup finals craze seemed to have gripped the city with leading entertainment outlets doing live transmission of the final game between France and Croatia.
Kiambu road was a nightmare with traffic jam holding hundreds of desperate fans on standstill hours before the game and even into the game.
Even when they got to Whiskey River and Jikonis, the two hot spots where the game was showing, one could hardly get parking space leave alone a seat inside the club. And so for the whole match, most of them watched in agony – on their feet.
It was the same scenario at Memphis Club on Thika Road and Blend as well as Level 7 on Mombasa Road.
