The probe into importation of contraband sugar has shone the spotlight on a Cabinet Secretary, three senior Jubilee MPs and former lawmaker.
Of interest is that two of the leaders in the list are from Western Kenya, where farmers have been reduced to paupers by cartels in the sugar industry.
State-owned sugar millers have collapsed because of the cartels that have literally run farmers out of their farms.
Sources told the Grapevine that investigating agencies including the National Intelligence Service (NIS) were still gathering evidence in the illegal trade in an operation that could implicate senior government operatives.
Will the war on smuggled sugar be won in this latest crackdown or it will be the usual ping pong?
