A second video showed the 20-year-old slumped behind the wheel of his black car being attended to by emergency services.

According to Broward Co. Sheriff's Office, police received a call about the shooting at 3:57pm and XXXTentacion was rushed to a local hospital.

Police later appealed to witnesses for information, writing on Twitter: “BSO homicide detectives said the 20-year-old victim was leaving RIVA Motorsports in Deerfield Beach shortly before 4pm when he was approached by two armed suspects. At least one of the suspects fired a gun striking Onfroy. Both of the suspects fled in a dark-colour SUV. Investigators say it appears to be a possible robbery.”

The rapper released his debut album 17 last year, which debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200.

Despite being relatively new to the music world, XXXTentacion was hailed 'rap’s most controversial man,' after becoming embroiled in numerous feuds with other rappers, including Drake.

Last year, XXX claimed their were similarities between Drake track KMT and his own song Look At Me.

In an interview with The Breakfast Club, XXX called Drake a "b***h" for "taking my s**t".

In 2017 he sparked controversy by imitating the hanging of a child in a new music video.

The video for Look At Me showed a number of violent scenes and incorporated footage of real life killings including the 2016 shooting of Philando Castile (who was gunned down while unarmed in his car in front of his girlfriend and four-year-old daughter).

The video climaxed with two young boys being introduced on stage in front of an audience - with the white child having a noose slipped over his head and raised upwards in an acted hanging.
