Secrecy is the highest form of disgrace in a relationship. Well, that's according to me as everyone is entitled to his opinion. Its a form of cheating. A deliberate "I don't trust you with my personal life" slap to the spouse's face. It's like a bacteria that slowly kills the spark to everyone's love story.
One of the lamest excuses for keeping a secret is, "I did it in order to protect you." You can never protect anyone without the shield of TRUTH, especially your spouse. Instead it open channels to which put the relationship at risk.
Recently I watched a series named Counterpart. Emily a mother and once-was-a wife has lost it all. Her world is a great abyss of secrets which are tormenting her. Although she is not the leading character, she is the best reference to our local experiences. Emily has secreted her personal life to the two most people that love her, her daughter and husband. Her husband, Howard, decides to leave her when he founds out she is working with some top government officials which put their family in danger.
He leaves a wanted man by the government as they fear Emily might have shared secrets of the government with him. Her daughter, Anna, then later through a nurse, receives a call that her mother has overdosed on some depressant drug. When she reaches the hospital the nurses explain that Emily her mother has been taking these drugs for a long time. She then decides to leave her home as she blames her mother for everything.
In such circumstances, Emily is to blame for whatever is happening to her life. First, her husband to whom they have been married for more than twenty years ought to know what Emily was dealing with. Such awareness is essential for couples as it spreads the risk of any danger since issues will be solved quickly. Emily would have come clean to her family and they would have helped her out.
So you whoever is keeping a secret, or thinking of doing so, for whatever reason, that's a bad call. Face your partner and share it out reasonably. For isn't that what true love entails?
