On 28 April, there was drama at a wedding in Membley, Ruiru Town after the groom’s alleged wife stormed the venue, cutting the ceremony short.
An infuriated Elizabeth Wairimu accompanied by her daughter and sister brought the proceeding to a halt after storming the wedding that was to be held at the ACK St Mathews church.
According to Wairimu, her estranged husband abandoned her after 13 years of marriage and would be marrying for the third time now.
“Nimechukua loans karibu millioni since 20017 kujenga hii nyumba ya Membley. Now he’s living with another wife kwa hiyo nyumba. Na hata ile kitanda nlikuwa nalala nlinunua kwenye nlikuwa nafanya kazi. (Since 2007, I’ve taken loans worth millions to build our house and now he’s living there with another woman. I’m the one who even bought the bed where I was working)” the scorned woman lamented.
Maryan Mageri, the couple’ daughter also claimed that she was under immense pressure from her institution of learning to clear her outstanding fees balance.
Wairimu’s sister was quick to point out that according to the constitution, the man was free to marry as many wives as he’d like. However, their qualm was with how badly he treated his ex-wife, even chasing her away from the house she helped build.
The wedding guests were left in shock following as the drama unravelled forcing the ceremony to be abandoned. The bride-to-be, who was seated in her car all along was eventually whisked away, declining to respond to questions from the press.
The few remaining guests made the best of the situation by enjoying the meal that had already been prepared for the day.
