Controversial Kenyan blogger Cyprian Nyakundi has been arrested for allegedly insulting Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on social media.
Nyakundi was arrested on 25 April and detained at Muthaiga Police Station.
"Several people have been summoned to write statements over the same,” and officer privy to the case told a local publication.
According to reports, the blogger has been denied bond and will face the charges levelled against him.
Confirming his arrest, Nyakundi took to twitter claiming that some powerful individuals were behind his arrest.
According to Nyakundi, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is among those after him, after the blogger allegedly referred to her using unprintable words.
He also claimed that the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) is also after him. “They say I have been attacking leaders online and in my posts disrespecting the Kikuyu community,” he stated.
Nyakundi also blamed Kenya Power Managing Director Ken Tarus for his woes after “I questioned his papers.”
Nyakundi’s arrest comes a few weeks after Governor Sonko sought the advice of his electorate through social media on how to deal with the blogger after allegedly insulting him.
