The devolution conference that is currently underway in Kakamega County could miss the performance of legendary Congolese Lingala maestro Kofi Olomide.

Olomide is still stuck in Congo as he awaits his persona non grata status to be lifted by the Kenyan authorities following his deportation to Kinshasha on July 2016.

Speaking to eDaily, Olomide stated that he had been cleared by his promoters to jet into the country but was yet to get confirmation from the state.

“They told me I am free to visit Kenya. I am waiting they confirm if I am still booked for the Kakamega event. I will take the next plane should they say I am wanted in Kenya,” said Olomide.

Governor Wycliffe Oparanya was quoted by The Nairobian last week saying that the county had facilitated his travel, warning against the mistreatment of the artist as soon as he jets in.

We have already facilitated his arrival and stay in Kakamega throughout the conference. We stand to lose if the government declines to let him into the country. More so, it will be political suicide to my legacy,” said Oparanya.

Senator Cleophas Malala on his part dismissed claims that the ‘Selfie’ hit maker was going to pocket a cool Sh23 million from the event.

“We cannot spend Sh23 million to pay one musician. The statements you have seen on social media are frivolous and unreliable. Those spreading the rumours are enemies of development,” said Malala.

Olomide was unceremoniously deported to Congo after he allegedly kicked one of his dancers at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

To get back, he needs to apply to get his status regularized.
