There is a new millionaire in town with a brand new Nissan Tida and a TV contract to boot, courtesy of Maisha Magic East's stand-up comedy competition the Ultimate Comic which ended over the weekend.

Sammy Kioko walked away as the new king of stand up after trouncing hundreds of competitors drawn from across the country to emerge top in in a well-attended, televised finale at the KICC on Saturday.

When the show’s host, Daniel 'Churchill' Ndambuki, handed the envelope containing the name of the winner to Maisha Magic East's CEO to read it out, the three finalists; Oloo Daniel, Sammy Kioko and Amos Kiptabut stood tense at the podium as they held their breath not knowing what destiny awaited them all.

The silence in the large tent told it all. For a few seconds the competition’s judges; Massawe Japanni, Tony Njuguna and Felix ‘Jalang’o’ Odiwuor, glanced at the highly expectant crowd knowing that the fruits of their four months of ‘coaching, mentoring, practice and performance’ were about to be unveiled for all to see.

The white Tida that was positioned at the centre of the room spoke volumes, shining elegantly, exuding class and confidence. Perhaps an indicator of how the life of the winner was about to change.

And when it was announced, Kioko’s knees sank to the floor as tears flowed freely and in joy raised his hands up as he thanked God. Like clockwork, family and friends rushed to the stage as ululation filled the air.

I expected it, and I want to give thanks God for giving me this and thank you to my fans for giving me this, thank you so much,” said Kioko.

In a well-tailored green suit, a jubilant Kioko signed the contract on the spot and was led by Churchill and bevy of security to the Tida and handed the key.

Britain’s Got Talent top three finalist Daliso Chaponda was the surprise of the night leaving the guests in stitches as he showed the new entrants in the game how it is done, Malawian style.
