Citizen TV has been shut down at the Limuru station, we can now report.
Through a tweet, Hot 96, Citizen Tv’s sister radio station earlier confirmed that The Royal Media service owned TV station had indeed been switched off.
This was also confirmed by Mr Waruru Wachira, the managing Director of the royal media Services in press release.
“We would like to confirm that this morning the Communication Authority disconnected Citizen and Inooro TV transmission.” his statement read in part.
Mr Wachira said that the authorities had not communicated on why it had taken the action against the RMS.
NTV owned by Nation Media group has also been switched off from free to air channels. ADNL transmission was disabled resulting on the Tv black out.
Talking to KTN on phone, NTV’s Ken Mijungu confirmed that officials had gone to transmission stations in Limuru. “Some viewers are lucky they can still watch us on DSTV ” he told Bettie Kyallo.
" There were people on uniform who accompanied suspected CA officials to the transmission sites.” He said.
This recent incident comes a few hours after Editors Guild lead by the chairman Linus Kaikai condemned threats by the government to shut down media on coverage.
The guild in their statement raised concerns saying that some journalists were last Friday summoned at State House for unknown reasons
Through its chairman, the The Editors Guild stated that the media is not an actor but a messenger in the ongoing supremacy battle between Raila Odinga and President Uhuru.
