The use of codeine has been glamourized by many celebrities making it even appealing to the common man’s eye.

Codeine has been sang about in over 40 songs such as Future’s Codeine Crazy and used by celebrities across the board. Popular rapper T.I is one such person.

In 2010, TI earned 11 months in prison for violating his probation. This was after he was caught driving with an assortment of drugs, including codeine.

Justin Bieber is another celebrity that has had a close relationship with codeine. In 2014, he almost got checked into rehab for his addiction.

The mainstream use of codeine is largely blamed on Bieber, whose star inadvertently popularised its use by the millennials.

That said, the discontinuation of production of codeine in 2014 by the company Actavis was also influenced by the mainstream use.

Of course, the use of Codeine is not without fatal and final effects. Dj Screw who popularised the drug in the 90s, Big Moe and Pimp C all died as a result of codeine abuse. The late Terrence Kiel, a football player, is believed to have let Codeine take over his life.

Recently, Fredo Santana whose music is greatly influenced by the purple drink, passed away. He largely used the drug.

It goes without saying that Codeine seeped through the world through Hip-hop. It is impossible to talk about it without thinking of Gucci Mane, Lil Wayne and Chief Keef.

The use of codeine was made popular due to the feeling of euphoria that comes with it. It also has the component promethazine which is a sedative.
