Controversial farmer and businessman Jackson Kibor has eaten humble pie and removed the deadly spikes he had mounted on his vehicle.
The 83-year-old wanted to use the car to take on trespassers on his land. He defended the move saying he was forced to modify the car after his firearm was confiscated.
Kibor said he decided to remove the spikes after police agreed to pursue trespassers on his vast property.
"Initially, I chose to mount the spikes after failing to get help from the police in arresting people who were burning my maize stalks and ploughing my land, I had made up my mind to chase after them using my land cruiser and piercing the tires of their tractors," he said.
He said he won't be at peace until the police arrest the culprits who invade his land.
"The spikes were a risk to locals, the law does not allow someone to do so. After talking to him, he agreed to remove them,"Eldoret OCPD Samuel Mutunga said.
Kibor acknowledges that last year's gun drama with one of his sons cost him after the authorities seized it. He said he only used it to scare his son who was armed with a panga.
He nevertheless agrees that is it is safer for the police to retain the gun to avoid causing problems in case of an encounter with the trespassers.
"Every man has a right to protect their property and because these people are adamant, the presence of the gun may cause many problems. It is imperative that the police come to my rescue instead of going for my gun," he said.
Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Hassan Abdi said they have directed the Sub County security committee in his area to ensure that the octogenarian is at peace.
