President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta is turning 56-years-old today. He was born on 26th October 1961 to Kenya’s founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and Mama Ngina Kenyatta.
Uhuru’s 56th birthday is coinciding with the repeat polls date when the country is going back to the ballot to elect a president after the Supreme Court of Kenya invalidated the results of the August 8th Presidential election.
The ruling by the Supreme Court on September 1st annulled President Uhuru’s victory and ordered that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) hold a repeat election within 60 days.
Following the Supreme Court verdict, President Uhuru and his main challenger Hon. Raila Odinga embarked on a second round of spirited campaigns until October 10th when the latter withdrew his candidature from the repeat polls.
The opposition chief said that he would not take part in the election stating that officials in the electoral commission who manipulated results in the August 8th poll were still in office and were intending to do the same during the repeat poll.
Raila Odinga, Kenya’s 2nd Prime Minister, asked his supporters to keep off polling stations in a bid to boycott the repeat election.
After Odinga’s exit, Uhuru is left with other opponents who are not formidable considering that his main challenger now is Third way Alliance’s Ekuru Aukot who only came 5th among 8 candidates in the August general election with less than 1% percent of the votes cast.
Essentially, President Uhuru Kenyatta is likely to win the repeat election as his supporters have turned up in large numbers to take part in the poll. If so, Uhuru gets a birthday gift of being the President of Kenya, for a second term.
