President Uhuru Kenyatta has come out to assure Kenyans that they should not blame themselves for the turn of events at the Supreme Court today.

In the press conference at State House this afternoon, Uhuru noted that while millions of Kenyans had turned out to vote for their preferred candidate, it is sad that 6 judges would go against the will of the people.

Flanked by his deputy William Ruto, Uhuru expressed his disappointment with the ruling but clarified that he respects the rule of law despite not agreeing with it. He highlighted Jubilee’s strength in both Senate and National Assembly as an indicator of how Kenyan’s voted.

Undeterred he pointed out that Jubilee was ready to go back to the people with the same agenda as before and let the will of the people be demonstrated. He also urged opposition to avoid tribal politics and instead focus on issue based campaigns.

All through his speech, Uhuru reiterated the message of peace to all Kenyans.

“Sisi ni kitu kimoja. Sisi ni wa jamii moja inayoitwa wakenya,” he said, reminding Kenyans that at the end of the day “your neighbour remains your neighbour.”
