AU's Thabo Mbeki says the election was peaceful and transparent as he addresses NASA claims

Former South African President Thabo Mbeki together with former Ghanaian president, John Mahama are in Kenya representing the African Union Observer Group During a press briefing, they said they were impressed with the process and urged Kenyans to maintain peace; they asked anyone who will lose in the election to use the courts

Former South Africa President Thabo Mbeki representing the African Union Observer group has spoken about Raila Odinga’s hacking claim.

Speaking during a press briefing, at a Nairobi hotel, Mbeki said in the view of the observer group, the process was so far in accordance with laws governing the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

When asked about Raila Odinga's hacking claims, Mbeki said the NASA presidential candidate and his team had met the observers and presented their grievances.

Former Ghana President John Mahama as well touched on the issue but urged the stakeholders to give IEBC time to conclude the process.

Mbeki said, during the meeting with NASA,  a question arose on how the coalition had accessed the database files in the first place.

“They said they had been given access by the IEBC,” explained the former president. The NASA team in their meeting with the international observer group expressed their reservations about the accuracy of 34As forms.

“A complaint that should be launched with the IEBC, we are simply election observer. We are not here to investigate," The AU representative said.

He advised the stakeholders to seek legal means to resolve the issues.

The observer group that covered 30 counties and over 400 polling stations, said that the election process was overall peaceful and transparent.
