Reports suggest Maryanne Wairimu, the girl found death with Chris Msando, and the slain Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ICT manager, had drinks on Friday at Number 7 Bar and Restaurant.

Maryanne Wairimu Ngumbu, 21, used the name Carol on Facebook.“Carol was her childhood name and we understand that is how she calls herself on Facebook,” said her mother Alice Ngumbu

Her mother, who confirmed that her daughter had said she would be meeting ‘a friend’ in town and would come home late, denied that she had an apartment in Roysambu.

Ms Ngumbu said her daughter was operating from the family home in Gachie, Kiambu.

“We are yet to identify the body but she had told me she would meet a friend in town and come home later. She did not turn up,” she said.

She told journalists she learnt of her death through the media.

In a strange twist to the case, the slain woman’s family members were yesterday barred from viewing her body. According to her father, Charles Ngumbu, detectives handling the case told them that they had locked it up as an exhibit.

“The matter is under police investigation and we cannot say much about it. We were not able to view the body for identification because it is under CID pending investigations and we are comfortable with it,” said Ngumbu.

But her sister, Jedida, said she was sure the body was that of her sister.

She said she first became curious on Saturday when her friends called to say Carol could not be reached on phone.

“I also tried in vain. Her mobile phone was not going through,” she said.

It dawned on her on Monday that Carol was dead when she saw on TV that the body of Msando had been found.

“I knew she was the one because she had gone out for a drink with Chris,” said Jedida.

She then left for City Mortuary where together with her friends, she identified the body.

“We went without informing our parents. On reaching the mortuary I feared going in and asked one of my friends to go in. Shortly after, I heard her scream and knew she had found my sister,” said Jedida.

Jedida later signed some forms at the mortuary to confirm they had identified the body.

Police say they found Carol’s body almost a kilometre away from Msando’s in Mugugua forest, Kiambu.

They are yet to know the motive of the killing, although there are indications that the two might have been hijacked and driven around the city before they were murdered and their naked bodies dumped in Kikuyu.
