Ladies, think twice before you ‘catfish’ your boyfriend online

News
You should not catfish your boyfriend

The internet is the bane of our existence! I have written about catfishes before, whereby people create fake social media accounts mainly to scam others out of their money.

But women are creating fake social media accounts for another, equally devious, reason: to test their boyfriends’ loyalty to them.

Many girlfriends are choosing to catfish their boyfriends to see if they would stray. All you have to do is create a pseudo social media account of an attractive woman, then send him flirtatious and seductive messages using that account to see how he responds.

I can’t even begin to tell you what a horrible idea this is.

A friend of mine catfished her boyfriend and it backfired horribly. My friend Lucy was worried about her boyfriend Tom’s Instagram habits.

Tom was following a lot of the so-called ‘Instagram models’ and socialite wannabes and Lucy wasn’t too thrilled about that. She had confronted him about this before and he had maintained that it wasn’t a big deal because he was just appreciating beauty and would never cheat on her.

Lucy was not convinced. She went on Instagram and created a fake profile of a woman named Rachel. Lucy created Rachel in a way that she knew Tom would not resist. Rachel was light-skinned, petite and stunningly gorgeous. She actually lifted the photos of an actual model that resides in a different country.

Rachel also had all the interest she knew would he be drawn to. She liked to travel and could throw down in the kitchen. If she wasn’t frolicking on an exotic beach in a tiny bikini, she was whipping out a gourmet meal.

The perfect woman! After creating the perfect profile, she followed Tom’s account and waited. Sure enough, he followed back and ‘Instaraped’ her profile. Lucy then slid into his DM with a flirty message.

Much to her dismay, he took the bait. After a few back and forth messages with Rachel, Tom, I don’t know, how figured out it was Lucy and called her out. To make a long story short, he ended breaking up with her because he couldn’t believe she could trick him like that.

Basically, when a woman decides to catfish her boyfriend, she wants to see if he will admit to being in a relationship or lie that he is single, or if he’ll admit to being in a relationship but claim he isn’t happy (because he wants to sleep with the new woman).

It may seem like a harmless thing to do, but it is a dangerous game to play. None of he possible outcomes of catfishing your significant other will be in your favour.

Whether he takes the bait or not, it will prove that there is no trust in the relationship. If he admits to being in a relationship and doesn’t get seduced by her, you run the risk of him finding out it was you.

If he does take the bait, you will get what you were searching for in the first place. No matter how insecure or doubting you are, you should not catfish your boyfriend.
