Twenty years is how long a 70- year-old man will remain behind bars after he was found guilty of raping his 19-year-old stepdaughter.
Lesunya Lekirimpoto was convicted and sentenced by a court in Maralal on June 22, 2016, but he appealed the sentence in the High Court. Lekirimpoto appealed seeking a reduction of the sentence arguing he’s an old man with six children who depend on him.
He also said he was now reformed and thus he ought to be given a second chance. The appeal was opposed by the prosecution citing the gravity of the offence.
It was stated that the accused raped his mentally-ill stepdaughter and the P3 forms produced before court revealed as much.
Part of the judgment delivered on June 7 reads: “As a father, he breached the trust a child would have towards a parent” and concludes that: “I am in agreement that the sentence meted out to the appellant was commensurate with the offence of rape of a stepdaughter.
It is for that reason the appellant’s appeal against sentence is dismissed. The trial court’s sentence is confirmed”.
