Glenn Jacobs and as alter-ego Kane

WWE legend Kane is set to quit the ring to run for the mayor in Tennessee.

‘The Devil’s Favourite Demon’ has announced he in running to become the major of Knox County, Tennessee, as a Republican candidate.

Kane, whose real name is Glenn Jacobs hasn't fought since November, when he beat Baron Corbin in Smackdown, due to injuries.

The 49-year-old runs insurance company Jacobs Insurance Associates outside of the ropes.

The election is due on May 1, 2018 and Kane is looking forward to potentially representing his hometown.

“Knox County is a great place and we’re so happy and feel so blessed to live here," he said.

“I want to do my part going forward. It's a great time to live in the county and a great time to live in the South, which is flourishing.

"One of the things we're going to have to figure out in Knox County is how to take advantage of that,"

Jacobs joined WWE, then WWF, in 1995 before being repackaged as Kane, the demonic half-brother of the Undertaker, two years later.

The 7ft giant has won 23 championships during his long career - including beating hero Stone Cold Steve Austin in the 1998 King of the Ring.

Kane holds the all-time record of eliminations at Royal Rumble with 44 eliminations.
