You ain't all that! This annoying habit of calling people 'haters' needs to stop

I am fed up with people griping about having 'haters'. The word "Haters" has to be the most tired cliché of the 21st century. Nowadays, if you disagree with someone, question them about something, give them some well-deserved criticism or generally just refuse to fall down at their feet and worship them, you are regarded a hater. The advent of social media has only exacerbated this insanity. You can't say anything even slightly dissenting with someone on Twitter without the word hater being thrown around. It is annoying that you can't go a day on Facebook without someone calling out their haters.

Every time I see someone use the word hater, I cringe. This whole notion of haters is the thinking of some very arrogant and delusional people. The arrogant conceit that you're being made famous, or that your "haters" are jealous of you is baffling. More often than not, the haters being called out don't give two hoots about that person and the person yapping about haters is actually the one jealous of the so called haters. It's ridiculous really. No, you don't have haters. You have delusions of having haters. If you did a little introspection you would discover that people dislike you because you have a nasty attitude, not because you are prettier or smarter or more successful.

The most exasperating thing about all this is that we live at a time where having haters is regarded as a badge of honour. Somehow, having haters increases ones importance tenfold so people bask in their "haters" and they are not shy about letting the whole world know that they have haters. First of all, I am pretty sure that haters don't "make you famous". Secondly, when you are yapping about how haters don't want you to shine or how they are making you stronger, you are only reinforcing why people genuinely don't like you.

A hater is someone who is envious of someone else's success and goes online to vilify that person. So, pray tell, where does a person whose greatest achievement in life is having two thousand followers on twitter get off saying they have haters? I hate to burst your bubble but nobody cares about you enough to be your "hater". Jesus had haters. You just have people who genuinely don't like you because you are a stuck-up brat with an over inflated ego. Instead of going on and on about haters, you should take some time off and work on your social skills. Don't be so quick to dismiss that dude sounding off on your update as a hater.

We all have people who don't like us for some reason or another. Sometimes those reasons are valid, sometimes they're not. Disagreeing with you on something is not "hating". Not everyone will be your friend. People will criticize you. Others will outright condemn you. Get used to it. Think about that before you go online to tell people how "haters gon hate" and how you intend to "shake it off".
