A suspect was arraigned in court for allegedly offering his friend a drink laced with pesticide causing his death.
Erick Gitau aka Nana allegedly poisoned David Karungo on May 27, at Salama, Makongeni in Thika where the deceased worked at a construction site.
The deceased’s wife, Susan Ng’endo, told the court that the two went drinking but Karungo returned home and did not finish his githeri that evening.
Susan testified that he held his mouth, rushed out the door and began vomiting and sweating while claiming that “Nimepewa pombe kali kaa shetani na Nana.”
David Karungo Ng’ethe, cousin to the deceased and a witness, told the court that when he asked what kind of alcohol he had taken “he told me that the alcohol he took tasted very bad, the vomit smelled like pesticide and he said that it was Nana who had done it”.
Peter Ndungu, another witness, testified that the deceased kept claiming Nana had given him “pombe kali kaa shetani” even after the deceased was given milk to neutralise the poison before he was rushed to the hospital where he died on arrival.
The police arrested his wife and the suspect to help them in investigations.
The case will be heard on March 1, 2017.
