The immortals: The Tiampatis have ‘chewed’ books

The Tiampatis. From one patriarch who attended the Royal Technical College (now the University of Nairobi where he studied administration) before forging an illustrious career in the civil service.

Funny. It began when John Tiampati was grabbed by mzungu on horseback while hearding sheep in a field and frogmarched to school!

Today, the Tiampati brood sweeps across banking, management, the academia, military (the late Kenya Army Major Andrew Tiampati), business, politics and international development.

John Tiampati: The alumnus of Machakos High attended the Royal Technical College (now the University of Nairobi) before launching a civil service career, first as a District Assistant Officer, then District Officer in all provinces before stints as District Commissioner in Kakamega, West Pokot, Taita Taveta and Deputy Provincial Commissioner, Eastern Province.

The Airport Manager at JKIA also served as deputy PS Agriculture & Livestock besides a stint as MD Cotton Lint & Seed Marketing Board.

He vied for the Narok North Parliamentary seat in 1992. He died in 1993.

Timothy Tiampati: The alumnus of Kakamega High and Odessa University (BA, Msc. economics) is the acting MD, Industrial Development Bank and a director at Nzoia Sugar. He has been in financial services for over 40 years.

Joseph Tiampati: Alumnus of Alliance High, University of Nairobi (Bsc. Mathematics) and Esami/MSM (Executive MBA) is a banker.

He rose to head of credit at KCB before a stint as PS, Ministry of ICT.

The aspiring Governor for Narok County in the 2017 general election has been a director of Telcom Kenya and General Manager, NSSF.

Lerionka Tiampati: The alumnus of Kakamega High and the Lenana School also attended Cranfield University (Msc. Marketing and product management) and the University of Nairobi (B.Comm).

He is a Non-Executive director at The Standard Group, but better known as the CEO of Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) and before that the MD, Ketepa.

David Tiampati: Alumnus of Kakamega High, Nairobi School and Delhi University (BA, political science) is the acting registrar, Maasai Mara University.

Stephen Tiampati: Alumnus of Kakamega High and Auragabad University (BA, political science, psychology and public administration) was in shipping, now in private business.

Ruth Tiampati: Alumnus of Hill School, Eldoret and Moi Girls’ School, Eldoret, Moi University and the University of Nairobi, is a nutrition specialist with USAID .

Samson Tiampati: He dedicated his 2013 University of Nairobi MBA thesis, ‘Influence of Strategic Positioning on Organizational Performance among Sugar Companies in Kenya’ to his late father.

He works at Nzoia sugar.
