After Kenya's Ezekiel Kemboi was disqualified from the Olympic Games men's 3,000m steeplechase on Wednesday for stepping off the track, Kenyans went to social media to express their sentiments.
Many felt that the disqualification of “Baba Yao” wasn’t fair on his part and that of Kenya, others however, said that perhaps the athlete had had an idea of his ‘mistake’ during the race.
“Ezekiel Kemboi may have noted his mistake that's why he did not go for gold,” said one Kechem
But most of the comments made by KOT acknowledged the iconic mark the Olympic Champion had made in 3000 metres steeplechase over the years. “Ezekiel Kemboi is still the steeple chaser of all time. Stripping him off his bronze medal cannot change that. #IstandWithKemboi” posted one paulo @pauloanyika :
In their statement, IAAF said that a protest had been presented by the French team after the 3000m steeplechase men final against Kenyan athlete Ezekiel Kemboi ... claiming he had stepped off the track,"
They later announced that Kemboi had in fact been disqualified
