Nairobi senator Mike Sonko has demanded speedy investigations into the murder of his bodyguard.
Speaking during the funeral of Constable Bakari Tsuma at Mkongani in Kwale on Monday, Sonko said the killing was suspicious.
Kwale Senator Boy Juma Boy, who attended the funeral, asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to intervene over reported killing of police officers, especially from Kwale County.
"This is not the first time we have lost our youths in the police force from Kwale. We want to be told why Tsuma was killed before anyone can think of campaigning here in 2017," said Boy.
He said the Opposition was ready to take over the leadership of the country if Jubilee continuously fails to protect its citizens.
Sonko called on the police to put in place an insurance scheme for police officers.
"I am appealing to the top security officers to see how best the insurance scheme for the police can pay for their hospital bills because for now it is not helping them," he said.
Constable Bakari Tsuma was shot in the forehead and died while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital on Monday.
Bakari is survived by two widows and three children. Sonko pledged to support them.
