Rating: 6/10
Drawn from Horror Story’s playbook, the series begins with a 20-year-old flashback regarding a bad thing that happened at the Kappa Kappa Tau sorority house in Wallace University. Now, as they are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the sorority pledge that went wrong, another murder takes place - and all hell breaks loose. As the investigation progresses, casualties start to pile up. Anyone could be the next blood-soaked victim, or the villain.
Thumbs Up
This modern take on a classic whodunit is a blend of comedy, horror and mystery that features a killer cast, including horror-genre veteran Jamie Lee Curtis, who demands that sorority pledging must be open to all students, not just the wealthy and elite. The success of the series is in keeping you guessing to the very end who the villain is by making every character have a motive for murder. The gruesomeness of the victim’s death makes for a perfect horror story, while the story line itself is interesting with snappy dialogue.
Thumbs Down
Some may feel that the scary scenes are not terrifying enough, at least not to the extent that American Horror Story was. The mysteries are so engaging that it feels exhausting at some point. With so much mystery, it is hard to like any of the characters hence no clear protagonist.
Verdict
A successful mix of comedy and horror.
