Just after the birth of her son, TV anchor Janet Mbugua is set to join the international speaker circuit

News

After the birth of her son just a few weeks ago, Janet Mbugua has been signed as a new speaker in the African Speakers and Artists (AS+A) bureau.

Ms Mbugua is among AS+A’s latest signings this month, alongside investment banker turned financial markets analyst and commentator Aly-Khan Satchu, and the Group CEO of Pan Africa Insurance Holdings and former Director General of the Vision 2030 secretariat Mugo Kibati.

The three new names join other eminent business leaders and artistes from across Africa who have been signed up this year by AS+A, which launched in June. Other speakers and artists on the roster include Erik Hersman, technologist and founder of Ushahidi and BRCK, Ashish Thakkar, founder and CEO of Mara Group, Bethlehem Tilahun Alemu, founder and CEO of SoleRebels Footwear, and popular music group, Sauti Sol.

Commenting on the latest signings, Founder and CEO of AS+A, George Issaias said that the three had joined the roster because they not only represent the most successful, creative, and innovative personalities in their fields, but also have a globally relevant story to share.

Janet Mbugua started her career, aged 19 on Nairobi’s Capital FM. The Malaysia-trained journalist has hosted shows and anchored prime-time news KTN, working as News Anchor, Reporter and Producer, as well as part-time host of the Pan-African Current Affairs show, Africa 360 on Johannesburg-based eTV.

She was named among the 2015 Business Daily Top 40 under 40 women in Kenya, and listed amongst Kenya’s top 100 movers and shakers by Drum Magazine East Africa in 2014. She was also named among the top three best News Anchors in Kenya by the Media Council of Kenya. Ms Mbugua is a Mentor with the Africa Leadership Academy (ALA) in South Africa.

She is setting up a Big Sister Mentorship program for young girls and women, and is the founder of The Janet Collection, a Lifestyle and Empowerment brand that merges fine quality clothing with community projects, using the line as an empowerment tool for vulnerable youth.
