Woman applying makeup

Going by the number of ‘why you should take a girl swimming for a first date’ memes, it may seem that the oft-hyped opinion that dudes prefer women without makeup holds some water.

What a bunch of baloney. The same men who profess their perpetual love for ‘natural beauties’ will turn and unashamedly gawk at every Vera Sidika look-alike that saunters by. Double standards aside, have you ever heard of a man who left a woman he genuinely cared about because she wears makeup?

There’s none. Men will put up with whatever amount of makeup if they really like a girl. Then they have the nerve to balk and scoff at makeup whenever that debate is brought up. And what do men really know about makeup anyway?

What I find utterly ridiculous and infuriating is the insinuation that makeup can transform a woman into a totally different person.

Does showering make you different as a person? We wear makeup for the same reason we shower, put on deodorant or brush our teeth; to appear a little bit more presentable. In actual sense, there is no such thing as a beauty buzzkill. As they say, one man’s meat is another man’s poison. One person might find a fully made up face repulsive, while another will be turned on by it.

I also like the concept of natural beauty and embracing what you got.

It is certainly a good thing if it is your style. If you feel more confident when rocking the au naturel look, go for it sister, as long as you are doing it for you, not to gratify some ignorant jerk who can’t tell foundation from concealer.

The bottom line is; who cares if you wear makeup or not? If a dude is into you because of what you wear, how you wear it or what you don’t wear, then he is most certainly not the kind of person you want to be involved with anyway.

Wear makeup for you. If you like it light, a little bit more natural, go for it. If you prefer the smoky eye, winged liner or some other type of dramatic look, more power to you.

My heart goes out to the girl who stops wearing makeup because her douche boyfriend doesn’t approve. It is not going on his face. Men will be allowed a say in this matter when they start wearing makeup. In the meantime, shut up and suck it.
