Genre: Comedy
Duration: 30minutes
The comedy revolves around the Bolos, a humble family of four; plumber Gidraff Bolo, his wife Jacinta Bolo and their two children, Riqo and Kabi. On that one in a million chance, this family enters a random game competition and hits the jackpot – a house - allowing them to move from their old, rundown hood, Mchanganiwa, to their new four-bedroom apartment in the suburbs.
However, on the day of their move, they lose their furniture to the driver whom Mr Bolo owes money and are met by Mr Quentin, the unwelcoming caretaker who also is the owner of the luxurious complex. Will they fit into their neighbourhood? This is the question the comedy seeks to answer.
Thumbs Up
For the first ever comedy series in Kenya, the show manages to create rib-cracking memorable characters who we can relate to. Though the cast is chosen with a bias to youth from disadvantaged backgrounds so that they can break into careers in film and television, they are not only proficient but have natural chemistry to back it up.
Having been cast from previous shows, Jim Were from KTN’s Briefcase Inc., Indiana Jones of Makutano Junction and Valentine Kariuki from KTN’s Better Days allow the audience to relate to some faces while they get used to the new ones.
Thumbs Down
The initial build-up of the story is slow and drags the show to the point of boredom. Also, the fact that the owner of a multi-million shilling complex doubles up as the caretaker is unheard of in the Kenyan context hence a certain disconnect as a result.
Verdict
If you are looking for some rib-cracking comedy, this is a must-watch.
