Catherine Kasavuli admitted to KNH

Veteran journalist and Kenya's first live news anchor Catherine Kasavuli is appealing for blood donation.

She is admitted to the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) after being diagnosed with cervical cancer.

KNH blood donation unit has asked the public to donate blood for Kasavuli, one of the most celebrated news anchors in the Kenyan media space, through a blood request form.

In a message, KBC Managing Director Samuel Maina announced the news and urged well-wishers to donate blood.

"Dear friends, colleagues, and well-wishers. Our dear colleague Catherine Kasavuli is hospitalized at the KNH Private Wing after being diagnosed with cervical cancer. For those who can, she needs a blood transfusion urgently. Your prayers and moral support will be very welcome," reads a message from Maina.

Kasavuli who hosts a show at KBC is reportedly admitted to Kenyatta hospital's private wing.

Taking to Twitter, Citizen TV's political affairs editor Francis Gachuri appealed for Kenyans to donate blood in a bid to rescue her.

"Blood donation appeal: Legendary newscaster Catherine Kasavuli is hospitalized at the KNH Private Wing after being diagnosed with cervical cancer. She urgently needs blood. Kindly avail yourself and donate. Thank you," Francis Gachuri tweeted on Monday morning.

 Catherine Kasavuli joined KTN in March 1990, where she was the first news anchor in Kenya to broadcast live.

Kasavuli's journalism career boomed between the 90s and 2015 when she left the screens.

She later returned to KBC in July 2021, where she hosts the Legend Edition.

The TV beau began her career in 1980 as a radio continuity announcer at the Voice of Kenya, which was later renamed KBC.

Later, in 1985, Kasavuli switched to television, KBC television.

Two years later, she enrolled for professional training at the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (KIMC).

She then joined KTN in March 1990, where she was the first news anchor in Kenya to broadcast live.

In 2007, she left KTN for Royal Media Services' Citizen Tv where she worked as an anchor before taking up corporate affairs roles and eventually retiring in 2015.
