Profiles of 6 judges appointed by President Ruto

President William Ruto has signed an Executive Order appointing six judges rejected by Uhuru Kenyatta in 2019.

"In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 166(1) (b) of the Constitution of Kenya, I William Samoei Ruto, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces, appoint Makori Evans Kiago and Cheruiyot Omange Judith Elizabeth to be judges of the Environment and Land Court," the Notice stated.

The profiles of the six are:

 Justice George Odunga. [Fidelis Kabunyi, Standard]

Justice George Odunga:

He joined the judiciary in 2011. Was admitted to the Roll of Advocates in 1995. He served for 16 years as an advocate at Rajn K. Somaiya between 1995 and 2001 and Behan and Okero Advocates between 2002 to 2011. Was called to the bar in 1995.

Aggrey Muchelule:

He is a career judicial officer who rose through the ranks from a District Magistrate in 1982, to a Resident Magistrate, Senior Resident Magistrate, Principal Magistrate, Senior Principal Magistrate, Chief Magistrate, and to the High Court. He was a former member of the Judicial Service Commission. He is currently a presiding judge of the Family Court at Milimani.

Weldon Korir:

Scaled up the ladder from assistant administrator in 1991 to a judge of High Court in 2000. Currently Presiding judge at Kabarnet/Kapenguria High Court.

Justice Prof Joel Ngugi:

Joined judiciary in 2011. Currently the Presiding Judge of Nakuru High Court. Graduated with Bachelor of Laws in 1996. Harvard law School Doctorate graduate in Juridical Sciences in 2002. Associate professor of University of Washington School of Law. Practiced at Kariuki Maigua at Company advocates between 1996 and 1998. Has published more than 20 articles and books.

Evans Kiago Makori:

Started out as district magistrate II in 1997, Rose through the ranks of resident magistrate, senior resident magistrate, principal magistrate, senior principal magistrate to his current role as chief magistrate since 2014.

Her career in judiciary started in 2000 as a senior resident magistrate Has served as principal deputy registrar, principle magistrate/principal deputy registrar, senior principal magistrate to her current role as registrar of the High Court since 2012.
