Ruth Odhiambo: My style represents class, elegance, minimalism, edge, sensuality and confidence

Let’s just put this way, there are other stylists, then there is Ruth Odhiambo. Somewhat of a newbie, her portfolio of celebrity and high-end clientele have already earned her a place in the Kenyan style hall of fame. Emboldened by youth and unafraid to flex with colors, she schools us on her notable and covetable style.

What does your style represent?

My style represents class, elegance, minimalism, edge, sensuality and confidence.

How do you pick your outfits?

I pick my outfits according to my schedule, occasion and mood. When on set, I prefer being very comfortable because I’m working. If it is an event, I pick my outfits according to its theme. I like dressing accordingly for every situation. However, my mood will determine whether I’ll wear sneakers or heels, shorts or a dress and the color combination too. My mantra is ‘’look good always.’’

How often do you change your style?

Very often. Fashion changes every day and as much I am not a trend follower, I keep up and that impacts my style and creativity in styling.

Name one thing that you would be caught dead wearing……

Kitten heels.

Really? Why?

They are ugly (sorry not sorry).

You would never leave the house without?

Sunglasses, phone and perfume.

Where do you shop?

Everywhere and anywhere! I am an impulsive shopper which is a bad habit but since I am a stylist, I get away with it. I love bargains so I thrift shop a lot! Plus, thrift items are very rare and unique. I also custom make and create outfits for me and my clients.

Tell us about your gorgeous, short, signature hair……

Thank you for the compliment. I have always had short hair since I was young. But then it was because I had problems with my scalp (but I’m good now) and I could not keep my hair long even if I wanted to which I totally hated. I later decided to embrace it and fell deeply in love with it.

That color is quite something. How did you settle for it?

I have always kept my hair short and black but then decided to experiment with colors two years ago and that’s how my signature blonde white was born.

What’s your deal with colors?

I genuinely love colors! Color makes anything come to life including clothes. Plus, every color has its mood which is very powerful. I like playing with colors when it comes to styling, especially pairing colors people wouldn’t dare think of mixing. Everything I pick for my style is always intentional.

One thing people don’t know about Ruth Odhiambo is?

I hate social media. I use it because I have to.
