Movei review: Noah

Movie Buffs

Movie: Noah

Director: Darren Aronofsky Cast: Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Ray Winstone, Emma Watson, Anthony Hopkins Genre:  Drama/ Adventure Duration: 2hr 19min Rating: 7/10 Welcome to the least Biblical ‘Biblical based’ movie that I have ever seen. The movie starts as Noah dreams of a serpent and an apple and all life drowning. He knows that this is a prophecy and the Creator was angry at the world and He was going to wipe off every living creature.

In short, He was going to press the ‘restore factory settings’ button. After his visions, Noah embarks on a long journey of building the ark.

The floods come roaring and the computer-generated images give a disastrous effect that leaves you thanking the Creator for not being angry in this generation. Noah’s family seeks refuge in the ark that is being tossed around like a feather in a stormy ocean.

Meanwhile the heathens outside are screaming in anguish as the Creator unleashes His wrath. Noah is a great movie with a combination of environmentalism, end of days and the endless Creator’s wonders. It is a rollercoaster of classic events mostly from the Bible.

Thumbs up The movie captures and drives your imagination insane to the world of impossibilities and great faith. The visuals and sound effects are on point and they help Russell Crowe to do justice to the character Noah.

Thumbs down The movie is too long and at times sluggish, but bearable. The overabundance of visual effects, makes Noah look like an animation and hence hard to stay on the character development. Still worse, if you know or have heard the story of Noah, you might find the movie contradictory in so many levels.

For instance, the movie features Noah fighting with his son and at some point goes to consult Methusellah, both incidences that are not reflected in the bible.

Verdict

This is a must watch movie. It clearly touches spirituality and it takes you back to young years when you first heard of the Noah story. The movie is pro-environment and it clearly shows that there will be consequences when you try to play Mother Nature and live against the will of the creator. It is also very entertaining.
