Janet Mbugua calls it a day at Citizen TV

News
Reading her last news bulletin with Hussein Mohammed yesterday, Janet Mbugua bid farewell to her fans and colleagues

It was a sad Monday night for many Kenyans this considering the most popular prime time news favorite duo will be no more. The inevitable came to be after Janet Mbugua confirmed that indeed she was leaving Citizen TV.

Reading her last news bulletin with Hussein Mohammed yesterday, Janet Mbugua bid farewell to her fans and colleagues.

‘’There are some people I really want to thank. Our viewers, colleagues and the bosses have been amazing. They have given me a great opportunity and a fantastic platform.’’ She said.

The news anchor has been in the media house for close to six years and will now be at the helm of Red Cross where she has landed a position as Communications and Diplomacy Director, rumoured to be a very well-paying.

The reason behind her exit is said to stem from Jeff Koinange’s pay where he takes home close to Sh2 million much more than the two senior news anchors were paid.

During the bitter sweet announcement she introduced Ann Kiguta as her replacement as they celebrated with a cake.

On her personal website she revealed that the move felt right and she did so pursue other interests.

‘’I happen to be a believer in doing what feels right when the moment feels right, as long as I’ve thoroughly thought it through, prayed, meditated and know that I can sleep with a sense of conviction in my soul. I’m also deeply aware of how blessed and lucky I’ve been.

The opportunity to have been a Broadcast Journalist for 10 years has been humbling and rewarding, with 5 of those years spent at Citizen TV. For that I’d like to thank Farida Karoney and Wachira Waruru, who have believed in me through and through.

I know the moment is right for me to take a sabbatical; breathe, reflect, pursue my passion projects in earnest and spend time with my young family. It’s more ‘see you soon’ than ‘goodbye’.’’ She wrote.

The beautiful media personality remains Lifebouy’s ambassador and is also involved in other projects including TheJourneyWithJanet with Resolution Insurance and #IAmMotherhood (www.iammotherhood.love) and Inua Dada which she founded.
