Gospel singer and Praise Atmosphere founder Evelyn Wanjiru has launched a foundation.

Evelyn said the journey to forming the foundation began with a desire to uplift, empower, and make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.

“It's about the countless lives we can touch, the voices we can amplify, the talent we can nurture, the communities we can heal, and the environment we can protect. It's about creating a legacy of love and transformation across Kenya and, indeed, the entire African continent,” she said.

The Evelyn Wanjiru Foundation stands on four strong pillars, each dedicated to making a lasting impact.

It is centred on championing maternity, mental health, and material support to ensure that no mother or child has to bear the weight of their childbirth alone.

It is also dedicated to growing the creative talents of the youth through the Praise Atmosphere Academy as well as advocating for a cleaner environment and better health.

“We empower individuals from all walks of life to lift their voices, to rise above adversity, and to be the change they wish to see in the world. My singing voice has touched hearts but I believe that each of us possesses a voice, a power, to touch lives in our unique way. Today, our mission extends beyond melodies and lyrics; it extends to the lives of countless people, and it extends to you,” Evelyn said during the launch on Wednesday in Nairobi.

Through her music label Bwenieve, Evelyn started Lifting Voices, a music program that features talented gospel musicians.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to all of you who have supported and believed in this vision. It is through your collective efforts, your passion, and your unwavering commitment that we are here today.

"I also want to thank my dedicated team; without whom this dream would remain just that – a dream. Help us write the story of change, of transformation, and of hope. Together, we can create a legacy of love and impact that will resonate for generations to come,” she said during the launch.

The 32-year-old gospel singer, worship leader, music director, songwriter and hostess of the annual event Praise Atmosphere is best known for her hit songs 'Mungu Mkuu', 'Unayeheshimisha', 'Asante', 'Celebrate', 'Jehovah Elohim', 'Waweza', 'Hossana', 'Nikufahamu' and 'Tulia', among others.

Evelyn started her music career at the age of nine. One of her first compositions was 'Mazingira', a song that was selected as the theme song of the government’s campaign to reclaim Mau Forest in 2010.

Since then, she has risen to be one of the biggest Kenyan gospel artistes..

Last year, after a 10-year wait, the gospel star and her husband, Agundabweni Akweyu, who is also her manager, finally received their precious bundle of joy; Baby Mshindi Akweyu Agundabweni. This happened a day before the couple’s 10th wedding anniversary.

“I am so joyful, excited and thankful that God remembered us on the tenth year in marriage,” said Evelyn after the delivery.
