President Uhuru Kenyatta's message of condolence to the Raila Odinga family

President Uhuru Kenyatta has joined the nation and other leaders in mourning the passing of Fidel Castro Odinga. In a statement on his official social media account, Uhuru sent his condolences to the family of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga assuring them that the loss of their son has been felt by the whole country.

He pointed out that Kenya had been robbed of a promising young man whose contribution to nation building will be missed by all.

It was with a deep sense of loss, sorrow and shock that I learnt of the death of the former Prime Minister’s son, Fidel. The passing of Fidel has robbed Kenya of a promising young man whose contribution to nation building will be missed by all. My condolences go out to the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and his family. This is a big loss not only to you and your family but the entire country. On behalf of my family, the Government and the people of Kenya, and on my own behalf, please accept our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences. I pray that God grants you the strength and courage to bear this tragic loss.

The Deputy President William Ruto also condoled with the Raila family stating that the loss of a child is a deeply traumatic event for any parent.

Nairobi County governor Evans Kidero eulogized Fidel and condoled with the family and friends.

The news of Fidel’s passing who was a close friend, a vibrant son, brother, husband and father has stunned my entire family.

While the loss of a loved one is never easy, it is most certainly the hardest when they are taken from us abruptly.

The loss of Fidel at such a youthful age is definitely in the category of those hard losses for which there is so painful a reminder of what might have been.

My wife Susan, myself and the residents of Nairobi City County, particularly the youth whom Fidel engaged and worked with passionately and tirelessly send our sincere condolence and deepest sympathy on your loss at this heart-rending time.

I ask for God's grace to comfort you and your family. May you find the courage and strength to move forward in peace and confidence and in knowing that his was a life well-lived.

Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua also sent his message of condolence

My condolences to the family of Hon. Raila Odinga for the loss of my friend Fidel. He was such a lovely chap.

We had a chat a few months ago and planned that come this January, he would bring some investors to visit me in Machakos.
