Investigation is on following the shooting of three football fans at City Stadium. Police outside City Stadium reportedly shot the three when K’Ogalo played Tusker FC. The shooting left them badly injured. Police alleged the men had attempted to steal gate collection fees for the match, claims the victims denied.
According to witnesses the injured, clad in Gor Mahia jerseys were taken to the nearby hospital and admitted with bullet wounds. Nairobi county police commander Benson Kibue said the men had tried to grab the cash when they were shot at.
“Officers manning the stadium fired at them as they tried to escape. They were arrested and rushed to hospital where they are recuperating,” said Kibue. However, the victims claimed police randomly fired live bullets at innocent fans in a commotion as they queued to enter the stadium.
Gor Mahia club officials said they have urged the Independent Policing Oversight Authority to investigate the shooting.
