A taxi driver was rescued from suffocating inside a toilet in a restaurant after a cleaner locked him in for failing to part with a bribe.
The taxi driver had failed to offer a Sh5 bribe, forcing the worker to lock him in the toilet.
The popular driver who parks at the building housing a restaurant on the ground floor, had a rough time.
Being a regular customer, he had hoped to use the restaurant’s lavatories for free. The restaurant’s worker, who is accused of charging those sneaking into the urinal area as little as Sh5 without the knowledge of management, would have none of it.
“Luckily I had a phone and called my colleagues outside to come and rescue me after struggling to open the door for more than ten minutes,” said the taxi man.
The management was called in to use a spare key to free the driver since the cleaner had left to attend to other duties. The restaurant’s manager apologised to the taxi man and promised to fire the ‘rogue’ worker.
