Emma Too to Cecilia Mwangi
Emma Too was MNET’s Face of Africa finalist in 1998. Her successful modelling career kicked off, taking her round the world. She stood out not only because of her beauty and sense of style, but also graced every social event on the calendar. Other beauty queens followed thereafter, with notable ones like Debra Sanaipei, but none completely dominated until 2004 when Cecilia Mwangi was crowned Miss Kenya in 2005, representing Kenya at the Miss World competition.
Though she did not bring home the crown, Cecilia Mwangi put Kenya on the world map with her anti-jigger project, which won several awards at the world level. She won the leadership management award from USAid, Presidential Award and Humanitarian award in 2009. Last year, she had the honour of bearing the Olympic torch across London from 250,000 nominees.
