High-coverage makeup has dominated sought-after treatment in the beauty and hospitality industry since the turn of the century. Then came the Covid-19 pandemic that shifted many trends, beauty, and hospitality included.

As the world recovers from the pandemic disruption, there is a noticeable shift in beauty and wellness trends that may very well be the long-term effects of the pandemic. Come post-pandemic, and the focus shifted from beauty and salon therapy to wellness, now a fast-growing sector.

Many destination exhibitors displayed their best wellness spas and services with the latest technology and going by the 2023 Magical Kenya Exhibition, the visitors, and travellers were spoilt for choice.

Both local and domestic tourists (African visitors and travellers who are now the major source of Kenya’s Tourism industry, according to the latest survey) are keen to do more than visit a country and catch its most famous sites. Instead, they also seek their well-being and indulge in activities that boost physical, mental, and spiritual health.

There are notable practices and treatment trends that are currently dominating the sector expected to trend over the festive season through 2024, courtesy of the Magical Kenya 2023 Expo and the Billionaire Spa, a destination boutique resort.

Yoga and mindfulness meditation retreats are gaining popularity, with recent research indicating that these activities are powerful, proven ways to cut stress in its tracks. Resorts are not simply providing guests with daily yoga classes; they are immersing them in spaces of peace, beauty, and connection with nature while dy destinations in Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa, Malindi, and Lamu, for instance, guests are treated to landscaped green spaces, and the delightful sounds of rustling leaves, birds, and soothing sounds from water sprouting from fountains or stream-like water flow.

Daily classes like yoga are now available in open spaces and are undertaken on the beach, with the sound of waves instilling a deep sense of calm. Destinations are now marked by hotels, resorts, and other types of accommodation perched atop a hill to provide the client with views over the lush nature below.

“It’s all about allowing nature to exert its healing influence while embracing millenary practices that boost your resilience, says Ermanno Cima, Billionaire Resort & Retreat General Manager.

From detoxing therapies to thirst quenchers, anti-ageing therapies holistic body therapy, cellulite and body cupping massages, body contouring wraps, sleep syncing, and face yoga among many others, the choice of the client and the depth of the pocket.
