Waithera Kabiru: A holiday home of dreams

Lifestyle
 Waithera Kabiru's holiday home

Waithera Kabiru, or Digital Diva Waithera, is a podcaster and seasoned marketing practitioner. Until recently, she was Head of Media Futures at East African Breweries PLC.

Waithera's holiday home in Malindi feels like a posh hotel, except these are villas.

Her stylish verandah is adorned with beautiful Swahili furniture, and the dining table stands out.

Meticulously displayed blue ceramic cutlery tempts one to sit and dine as you enjoy the beautiful view of the swimming pool and the other villas.

The style and architecture of her three-bedroom villa remind you this is the coast. The round stone house is brilliant white with a Mazera floor.

She travelled to Watamu Tree House for a retreat, which birthed what she now calls her holiday home in Malindi.

Waithera describes herself as a fearless innovator who aims to "influence the next generation of creatives to transform society for the better of all positively."

A marketer and creative, working from the Coast, Waithera's motivation and productivity are higher, which has resulted in the accolades that her company has won under leadership for three years consecutively.

"I'm not sure if it's the weather or air in Malindi, but I know I achieve so much working from here," she said.

Motivated by COVID-19, she decided to stay in Malindi during the pandemic and work from there.

A strategic thinker and an early bird, she wakes up very early to do yoga and work, and at 3pm she's ready to rest because of the heat.

Her outdoor living area feels like a living room, with a fridge stocked with refreshments and food. A big dining table is enough to host a party.

The lounge coastal mahogany white seats are super cosy, and the bright cushions look incredibly beautiful. Her verandah gives a summer vibe at the beach.

Her living room has a cosy, stylish feel. The mahogany furniture in the room stands out. It was airy, bright, coastal and chic. The Mazera floor gives her villa an authentic coastal vibe.

She displays extraordinary art pieces on the walls that she handpicks from various places. A pencil art of her image displayed on the wall stands out.

Colourful wicker baskets on the walls and a gorgeous floor lamp feel surreal and add an eclectic touch.

The adjacent walls in the room are adorned with treasures from her travel and trinkets of what she loves together with her family.

Lamu sofa with cosy and colourful cushions tempts one to sit and lounge; after all, one is at the coast.

The wooden ceiling beams against the white walls unleashed an authentic feel, and the makuti roof keeps the villa cool during hot weather.

Her bed is covered in bedsheets, with no duvets in site and luxurious white and brown pillows, making for a comfy wrap on hot days and nights.

Colourful Ankara bedside lamps create an epic fusion of furniture and the bedroom look. The wardrobe design and doors are made meticulously.

When asked what people don't know about her, she laughed and responded, "I'm an introvert. I love reading books. Being visible does not equate you to being an extrovert."
