Kenya’s international volleyball star, Jane Wacu is on the spot for allegedly attacking and injuring a 26-year-old female bouncer in Ruiru town.
Wacu who claims she does not remember attacking anyone, allegedly assaulted Janet Muchiri after the bouncer attempted to stop her from leaving the pub with bottles of alcohol in the wee hours of April 23.
According to Muchiri, Wacu, together with a friend, stepped out of the pub holding beer bottles, then went on to harass a young man who was waiting on the opposite side of the road.
“At first, I thought they wanted to take the drinks from outside as they relaxed, but when I saw them cross the road, I followed and asked them to return the bottles. It’s against the club’s rules to leave with bottles. I tried to restrain her from roughing up the young man, but instead, she yelled, “F**k you, you don’t know who I am,” claims the bouncer.
The volleyballer’s friend allegedly aimed a bottle at Muchiri, which the bouncer reportedly blocked before a fight broke out between the three women.
The bouncer claims she was attacked and injured in the head, neck and left ear. She further claimed that she had to seek medical attention before reporting the matter at Ruiru Police Station where she was issued with a P3 form.
“Wacu threatened that if I report her to the police, I will be the one to suffer and not her,” claims Muchiri.
Ruiru DCIO David Kiprop Chebii confirmed the incident, saying they had summoned Wacu.
“An alleged assault case has been reported by a lady bouncer who was injured. The suspect has been summoned, but she claims to have gone to see her mother. We will definitely arraign her in court,” said Chebii.
Wacu is a celebrated member of the Kenya national women’s volleyball team.
Asked about the incident, she claimed that she could not remember assaulting anyone at the club and instead blamed a colleague she claims was out to tarnish her name.
“Someone is trying to push this matter. I told them (detectives) that I will avail myself, I have just visited my mother after recently arriving in the country. I am an officer who respects the work of the police,” Wacu said, adding that she is not hiding.
