Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Sam Nyamweya’s woes seem to be far from over after an auction firm, Keysian Auctioneers, put up his Karen plot on notice on Monday 7 December 2015.

According to the notice appearing on one of the local dailies, the prime piece of land valued at Sh100 million will be placed on sale from December 14 after the FKF boss allegedly failed to pay a loan he acquired from a local lender.

“Sale on Monday 14th December 2015 as from 11.00am in our offices at CPF House 3rd Floor along Haile Selassie Avenue, Nairobi. All that property known as LR.No 10261/3 (I.R No. 65239), Karen Estate, Nairobi County in the name of Samson Keengu Nyamweya,” read the notice of the auction by Keysian Auctioneers.

“It is a leasehold interest for a term of 99 years w.e.f 1/11/1959 at an annual ground rent of Sh3,390.00 (reversible) and measures 0.4277 ha. The property is in Karen Estate, Nairobi County about 150 metres off and to the left of Kuwinda Road, deviating at about 800 metres from its junction with Lang’ata Road,” the notice further read.

However, when contacted, Nyamweya denied the debt claims, terming them as “propaganda, mere machinations thrown (at him) by his political enemies.”

He added that, “We are in an election period and my political opponents are coming up with fabricated stories to taint my image. I don’t owe anybody money, that is mere political propaganda,” Nyamweya told The Nairobian.

“It is not the first time that the notice is appearing on the newspapers. It was there a few weeks ago, but let them be warned as my lawyers are in the process of suing them,” said Nyamweya.

Of late, FKF has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. First, it was about the shoddy preparation and bungled travel arrangements for the national team Harambee Stars that led to their elimination from the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers after losing 2-1 to Cape Verde in the return leg.

Nyamweya was later grilled for over five hours by detectives from the Department of Criminal Investigation over Stars’ bungled travel.

Then came players’ protests over unpaid allowances at the 2015 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Ethiopia before team manager Willis Waliaula threw in the towel after he was detained at their hotel in Addis Ababa over unpaid bills. This was after Kenya, who were the defending champions, had been bundled out of the competition by Rwanda at the quarter-final stage on post match penalties.

Earlier, clubs accused the federation of forging their signatures to secure a Sh83 million sponsorship deal from MP & Silva, a marketing agency.

But in a statement, the federation refuted the claims saying those signatures were not taken for commercial purposes.

“The federation is steadfast in its position that there was no requirement of signature of clubs and as such, the matter remains a commercial dispute between FKF and MP & Silva and remains committed to the rule of law in fighting any attempts to malign FKF in its efforts to change the fortunes of Kenyan football,” read a statement signed by Nyamweya.

Before the dust had completely settled, the Senate Labour Committee asked for the postponement of the football elections, where Nyamweya is seeking re-election, and called fro investigation into alleged graft and mismanagement at the federation. .

The Senate wants the Nyamweya-led FKF to shed light on alleged financial irregularities in the federation as tabled by Nairobi County Senator Mike Mbuvi ‘Sonko.’
