Dressed in a black T-shirt, straw hat and jungle green pants, Yaya looked at home with his surrounding. He was accompanied by a beautiful woman, whom he introduced as his personal assistant. Also in his entourage was a personal chef.
He spoke on a wide range of issues - from racism, Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney, to his footballing family. He was full of praises for Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama, who plies his trade for Southampton.
“Wanyama is a good friend of mine and I usually advise him when I get time,” he said of the Kenyan star who considers Yaya a role model.
Asked if he could also join Arsenal, the club that Wanyama is rumoured to be interested in Wanyama, he chuckled and said, “You know we are in a foreign country. We are there to earn a living and fully exploit our talents that would otherwise have been impossible in Africa.”
He admitted that African players have to work extra hard in Europe to excel, but is encouraged by players from the continent who are making a mark in the English Premier League (EPL) and earning respect from their peers.
“Life in Europe can be frustrating sometimes, but we appreciate the opportunity that enables us to live well and provide for our families,” he added.
He was clearly satisfied with his accommodation. “I love this place and everything about it. It’s the perfect place to holiday and recuperate as I’m currently injured,” he added.
Yaya also toured the famous Shimba Hills National Reserve. He said that his elder brother, Kolo Touré, is a cool person. “He is faring well and I am happy for him.”
Diani has hosted a number of big names in football, including Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho, Dutch tactician Guus Hiddink and Arsenal players Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere.
Early last year, Jack Wilshere and Aron Ramsey also holidayed in the area. Ramsey visited with his extended family.
