The race for Football Kenya Federation (FKF) presidency is fast gaining momentum.
Former Harambee Stars captain Dennis Oliech last week led a group friends and retired as well as active footballers at a funds drive in aid of his brother Ken Oliech who has declared interest in the big seat.
Ken who formerly captained Gor Mahia FC, is among the candidates for the 2015 FKF elections.
Shaffie Weru, Kriss Darlin, John Kiarie were among the guests who graced the event held at Mama Oliech restaurant in Hurlingharm, Nairobi. In attendance were a number of players from Kenyan Premier League, FKF Premier League and Nationwide Clubs who voiced their support for Ken.
Speaking at the event, Dennis called upon all footballers to stand up and help ‘restore sanity in local football. Dennis was flanked by all members of his family including their mother Mary Auma Oliech.
Speaking after the function, an overwhelmed Ken promised to work with various stakeholders in the build up to the football polls.
“Let us help in returning our game back to winning ways. I promise that when elected, I will fight for football to be returned to grassroots by developing youth structures,” said Ken.
Celebrated foreign based footballers also sent their contributions and acknowledgments. A total of Sh4.1 million was collected.
