Messages of peace ruled the mood during the 10th edition of Miss University Africa Kenya.

The finals were held at the Carnivore Simba Saloon on Friday night. This year's pageant was themed around peace, love and unity as universities are known to be a strong pillar in the society today.

"When it's wrong, it's wrong, even if it's done by your hand man," said newly crowned Miss University Africa Kenya 2022 winner, Triza Muhenje as she thanked those who supported her in this journey. She is a second year student studying Tourism Management at the Cooperative University of Kenya.

Muhenje was closely followed by Sandar Atieno of Egerton University, a fourth year student studying Gender and Development studies. Brenda Wangare, a third year student of International Relations and Diplomacy at the Kenya Methodist University settled for the 2nd runners up slot. The tightly contested finals brought together 26 contestants.

The annual beauty pageant organised by Pambazuka Entertainment's CEO Leakey Odera brings together winners from the different universities in the country. The overall winner will represent the country at the continental event in Lagos, Nigeria, in December.

Last year, the country was represented by Mercy Grace Kavata from Multimedia University. She is a mental health advocate and believes the platform helps in growing one's career path. Then, Adar Yusuf Ibrahim made history when she won the global pageant making her the first ever Hijab wearing Muslim to win a continental crown in Africa.

"I am very excited to be crowned Miss University Africa and the first woman in history to win an international crown for my country. This title is not for me but for my nation and its people who never give up on their dreams that Somalians can compete anywhere in the world if given the right opportunity," she said on winning the title.

Miss Ibrahim who hails from Somalia beat 54 other beauties representing the different African countries to clinch the much coveted title.
