Award-winning Gospel minister Ruth Matete has chosen to celebrate herself this International Women’s Day.

Taking to her social media in a lengthy appreciation post, the Tusker Project Fame 5 winner recalled being in her lowest moments after losing her husband and having to bury him three months later after murder allegations arose.

According to Ruth, she was subjected to immense cyberbullying after rumors emerged on social media that she was behind her late husband, Pastor John Apewajoye alias Beloved John’s death.

Not only that, the talented voice coach was forced to give a deaf ear to trolls and grieve her husband, all while pregnant.

“Happy Women's day. Today I celebrate myself for holding on through the tough times! My husband died two years ago after being married for 4 months. I was 2 months pregnant when he died. I dealt with multiple pain at the same time. Rumors that I killed my husband. Cyberbullying. Pregnancy emotions. Death of my husband. Burying my husband 3 months after his death because of issues surrounding his death,” she wrote.

Unfortunately, Ruth’s situation did not get any easier as her business shut down following the Coronavirus pandemic that rocked the world and crippled numerous services.

“Corona. My business closing. There are days I cried and didn't even know the exact reason for crying. But God!! I didn't know if it was a test. But I kept praying and telling God that if it was a test, I was gonna pass it!” she added.

Despite all she went through, the mother of one revealed that she never lost hope and always fought to emerge victorious.  She went on to extend a word of encouragement to women going through tough times and those that have gone through worse to stay strong.

“I celebrate you Ruth Matete for not giving up. I celebrate every other woman out there!! I celebrate you, who went through probably something worse than I did and still made it. Women! We are strong! We are Powerful! We can!”

Reaction to husband’s demise

Speaking about her late husband’s demise for the first time in a previous interview with Kalekye Mumo, Ruth admitted that she was shocked by his demise, so much so that she forgot she was expectant.

“When I was told my husband was no more, I never thought about the baby. This is my husband, we had only been married for four months, the love of my life. The man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. I did not think about the baby, the pregnancy. I did not even care if I lost it. At that moment I was mourning. I just allowed myself to grieve, I had to accept it,” she said sobbing.

Luckily Ruth carried her child to full term and gave birth to a healthy baby girl that according to her has completely changed her life and that of her family.
