#WCW: Vivian- A woman in love with her dream in music

Singer Vivian

By Sheila Kimani (@sheilakimm)

Her quest to conquer the Kenyan music industry started with her first single ‘Dream’ that paved the way to her next track ‘Woman in Love’ to her recently released video ‘Same Girl’. Vivian’s dream still lives on to become one of the most celebrated female artistes in Kenya.

Born and raised in Nairobi’s Pangani estate, Vivian, the third born in a family of four admits that being one of the middle children had its downsides. “What they say about middle children is true. Sometimes, parents get caught up focusing on the youngest and oldest children.”

That did not stop her from exploring her talents and being good at it.Her primary school saw her attend the Marion Group of Schools before proceeding to Statehouse Girls for her secondary school education.

It was during this time that she took part in the school choir and sung her way to the lead singer spot.

Soon after campus, she joined the Kenya School of Professional Studies, pursuing a marketing degree.

But her talent and passion for music led her to Main Switch Productions, one of the fast rising production stables. Phillip, the producer who was once part of the Dagoretti Band, and singer Jaguar, warmly welcomed Vivian by helping her produce her first hit dubbed “My Dream”.

“I knew Phillip was passionate about music and I’m forever grateful that he considered mentoring me into my musical career.”

Soon after releasing ‘My Dream’ which became an instant hit, many thought that Vivian was relying on Jaguar for her musical prowess. A notion she put to rest by by unveiling 'Woman in Love', that was nominated for several awards.

Soon after, she collaborated with Bobby Mapesa in 'Over and Over' and has been relentless on the quest to keep raising her musical brand.

She has been consistent in her brand with her new release ‘Same Girl’.

Having beaten the odds to remain relevant in the music industry, Vivian points out that it’s never easy to breakthrough in the music scene, but persistence, focus and determination will get you where you want to.
